A Night of Cuban..mmmm...
Right now I have Micaiah sitting in his seat, sitting beside me and admiring me with those big ol' adorable blue eyes of his...and grinning constantly... *sigh*... I love being a Mommy! He is being kept occupied for the moment with a calculator...can never start with that math too early... although he likes it in his mouth more than anything else.
We were going to do something sporatic today...but I dont know if that is going to happen. Its hard to find something to do just like that, around these parts...especially when the grass is blaa and brown..but I am going to have a look see on the computer and see if we cant find something to do.
Last night at church we had a food and fellowship evening with the ladies from church. It was so much fun. Its like a cooking club at church and we are going to meet once a month and cook a different kind of ethnic dish that they are going to teach. Last night my friend Milly taught us how to make a few Cuban dishes...I cant pronounce them very well but they were sooo yummy! I have the recipies on a sheet of paper right here so I can tell you what they are! Here is what we made: our appetizer was "Empanadas" like a Spanish turnover. Side dishes included Black Beans and Rice, Steamed Plantain, and our Entrees were Vaca Frita (Translated "fried cow") and Ropa Vieja (translated "Old Clothes") they wer emostly meat dishes with cumin, oregeno, onions, garlic and bell peppers! They were some yummy though. And guess what they want me to teach one night.. Dutch Food...so for all my fellow dutch family out there, any suggestions would be great.. well the little guy is ready for his nap now, so I better go and feed him now! I hope that you guys have a great weekend! I know I plan too!

Food is always a good reason for a get together.
As far as Dutch food goes, you could try boerekool stampot, snert, red cabbage with meatballs and potatoes.
Have a great weekend, love, DAD
snert and red cabbage sounds good.... but not boerekool... you will damage those poor people's opinion of the dutch. Dad.. does Nasi count? We do get the stuff from the dutch guy :) hehe. sounds like Micaiah is doing well. I would say call soon.. but I think that i dont have time this week. Maybe next saturday? Love you oodles and I hope things are going well!
luv ya!
Amanda
Hahaha, Manda, you're hilarious! Much as I don't like boerekool stampot either, it is a very tradtionally dutch dish. So are frites (french fries) met pindasaus or mayonaaise. Picture the hot dog street vedors in big cities but selling just fries - that's a frites stand for ya http://community.iexplore.com/photos/journal_photos/frites2.jpg
I think nasi can count, but you'd have to let everyone now that it's actually an Indonesian dish which the Dutch brought over during their times of trade with Indonesia.
snert is good too, and so are red cabbage and meatballs. Soo many choices. Let us know what you make.
Love ya!

My first thought was boerekool stampot...depends on your kale availability. And snert too. I thought right away of gehaktballen and potatoes....every culture makes its own version, but what makes it truly ethnic is the seasonings you use. Sounds great...I am getting a rumbly in tumbly.
Love ya, TT
I loved the dutch food you made for us when you were here! Can't pronounce any of it, but it all tasted good! I'm sure you'll have good reviews on whatever you choose!
Love you!
Mommy
Hey Dianna, getting hungry just thinking about my favourite dutch dishes. I tend to like Siepels (onions) but I don't think you were ever subjected to that. It would have to be my fave dutch dish, right beside boerekool stampot and snert.
Love you.
Love Tante Tineke
OK, first of all -- what is snert? Have I had it? Anyone?
I do love stampot and red cabbage though. Dessert -- buterkok (butter cake) -- arghh... spelling?
Hi Dianna! What a great way to socialize. The Cuban dishes sounded yummy. What other nationalities are there in your group? Could be fun and interesting. Maybe scary if it's a night you don't like. :~
Keep up that Math homework with Micaiah. :)
Love ya, Tante Karen
